White toast? Cereal? Cow's milk coffee with a vanilla shot and two sugars? WTF?
Seriously, although this is an extreme example of a poor way to fuel your body, it is still done daily by so many people. I, personally, wouldn't even accept wholemeal toast and jam as an acceptable kick start to my day. No judgement, I did this a decade ago! But I decided to change.
SURE, it will fuel you, the carbohydrates and sugars will give you some energy for a couple of hours, but my focus, as you will see in my future blogs, in my eBook and throughout this site, is that these foods (yes, even the wholemeal bread) are lacking some serious nutrient density.
When you eat, your body uses energy and nutrients to break down, absorb and use the goodness provided by your chosen meal. Therefore, if it takes "this much" energy to digest and use the wholemeal toast and jam, but you only get "that much" energy from it, then you can see that energy in, doesn't reflect energy out. So you're essentially getting less for what you're putting in.
This is the whole concept of nutrient density and how if you can make nutrient dense choices for at least 80% of your meals, you will be filling up your bank of nutrients and increasing your bodies vitality.
If you're not accustomed to this kind of eating, then it may seem like a lot of hoo-ha... but that could entirely be because you haven't FELT what it is like to be vital. Here are my recommendations as the most important things to do to increase your nutrient density of your breakfasts and ultimately give you tonnes more energy, make your skin more radiant and your mind clearer..
Has this shaken a bit of dust up and helped you consider habits that might not be serving you well? Make breakfast pack a punch, and you will soon see your wellness shift and your vitality increase. When people start to say things like "Oh wow, you're glowing!" and "You look really well"... and you start to feel clearer in your mind, have an increased ability to focus at work, notice your skin is softer, notice you're not starving by 10:30am... you know you're on the right track.
